Pool Electrician

Pool Electricians for 43 Years

We pride ourselves on our specialties. One of them is that we are “pool electricians”. It is a niche we grew in to and have grown with along side many of the best pool installation and maintenance companies on Long Island. In the summer month we stay very busy doing pool wiring. This page should be a wealth of information for anyone interested in exactly what we do and why are one of the best when it comes to wiring pools.

What is a Pool Electrician?

In short, we are genuine, licensed, electricians that specialize in safely bringing power to and connecting pool equipment. The thing with pools is that water and electricity need a bit of extra attention because we all know they don’t mix. It doesn’t matter if the pool is new or if you’re adding equipment to an existing pool.

LICENSED MASTER ELECTRICANS

For some reason, specifically here in Long Island, there are countless folks working on pools that are not licensed electricians. We pay quite a bit of money to maintain proper insurance, licensing, tooling, underwriting, etc. to be able to do what we do. In turn when a company comes in cheaply, you very may well be putting the lives of your loved ones on the line to save money. Let’s face it, depending on your definition, pools are not “cheap” to build nor operate.

If an unlicensed “electrician” wires a pool and there is ever an accident, the liable party (unfortunately) is the homeowner. I could morbidly post all of the pool incidents that occur each year but I’ll save that and leave you with this; Either be okay with the cost of paying a licensed, insured, master electrician run company to install the electric to your pool OR don’t install a pool.

Please make sure the contractor you are working with actually holds a license and that the insurance and permit is in that contractors name. Especially if you’re in Oyster Bay!

Pool Electrician Services We Offer

1. New Pool Circuits and Wiring:

We wire and install new pool systems. This means we bring the power to the pool equipment (usually via a trench), install an electrical panel (or automation system), wire the pumps, salt generator, heater, lights, auto cover, water features, etc. We will bond the pool and furnish an electrical underwriters certificate. Whatever your pool professional is building, we will make sure everything is wired. Here’s a simple example of the components that need electrical wiring for a new pool.

2. Bonding Verification and Bonding:

Bonding is an all important process that seems to get overlooked far too often. The reason is because the lack of proper bonding can be scary. Some incorrectly call it grounding, but they mean the same thing. Your pool shell, components, and metal objects near the pool all need to be electrically connected. The short version is that this keeps you safe in the event of an electrical fault (neighbors house, your house, PSEG – doesn’t matter). You can find a more in depth explanation here on the Electrical Educator website.

3. Salt Generator Wiring:

We wire many salt generators each year for pool professionals and individual customers alike. After a pool professional installs the salt cell, our electricians mount the control box and provide power. Sometimes we need to install a post, sometimes we can mount it on a nearby structure. Here’s what that looks like.

4. Heaters and Heat Pumps

Most people here on Long Island, including myself, don’t like to feel like a polar bear when going in to a pool. We wire gas heaters and heat pumps for individual customers and countless pool professionals all over the Island. Keep in mind when adding a heat pump to an existing pool you’ll need to install a new circuit from your main electrical panel.

5. Automation:

Hayward, Jandy, or Pentair, it’s all the same to us in terms of wiring. Automation with pools is the ability to control your pumps, water features, pool lights, heat, and more via your smart phone. With automation comes the need for a strong wifi signal. More preferably and required by some systems is an ethernet cable brought to the equipment from your router. We’ll install the new ethernet cable if needed and then wire your components to the automation system. We don’t sell automation systems nor do we recommend one over the other. That will depend on your pool professional and what equipment your currently have.

6. Pool Lights

We wire pool lights, install switches, and remote setups. This gets confusing to many folks but believe it or not, there is water in the conduit between the pool light in your pool and the “deck box.” For this reason, the conduit install between the pool and the deck box is on the pool professional, the conduit and wiring between the switch and that deck box is on us as the electrician. The deck box is where the connection happens, above the water level.

Many new pool lights need transformers or specific switching mechanisms installed, specifically the color changing lights offered by Hayward, Brilliant Wonders, and Jandy.
